s838 - A Hippocratic Oath for Connected Medical Devices

Session Description

The single biggest risk to the health of future generations is trust and trustworthiness of care delivery. Healthcare advances promise to save millions of lives over the next decade, in the US alone; millions to billions globally in the decade after that. To be sure, we will eventually get there. Yet crises of confidence delay human benefits, put investments at risk, and increase the cost to replace our failures. Physicians take a symbolic oath to act in the best interest of their patients, yet care delivery is increasingly dependent on connected medical devices. The Hippocratic Oath for Connected Medical Devices embodies this same symbolic spirit for designers and developers of future healthcare equipment.
